Do They Really Need Their Own Embassy?
◊ I recently was walking though a part of town that contains many of the embassies to the Czech Republic. On one street, every other house I was standing in front of another country's territory. They were easy to spot because they are the houses flying flags other than the Czech flag. There was one in particular that just blew my mind. Sandwiched between the Kuwaiti and Thai embassies was the Mc. Donald's embassy. Yes, you heard me right.
◊ I saw this place from quite a ways away, but didn't know what to make of it until I got right up close. I had though at first that maybe it is just a restaurant set in the middle of a residential area for the convenience of the ambassador's and their staff. After all, here Mc. Donald's is considered quality dining so it seemed like a plausible scenario. Then I noticed there was no parking lot or public entrance, just a gate and tall fences. Odder still was the fact that the streets in it's immediate vicinity were lined with police cars. The only places I have seen that much of a police presence in Prague have been police stations and around the US embassy in Mala Strana. Despite all of those cars I did not see a single Czech officer anywhere. Also take a look at those banners. Not just one flag like the other embassies, but three freaking huge ones. Something smells funny in burger town.
