The Czechs Are Flipping Out

◊ For those of you who do closely follow hockey, the team from the Czech Republic won the world championship in the final game against Canada. Over the last few days they have beaten the US and Swedish teams. This does not please Nils or I. In some ways, it is probably good for me that we lost because they take their sports very seriously. This weekend I have only had to listen to constant reminders that the Czechs beat the US rather than death threats that probably would have been the result otherwise. Now, however, they are the WORLD champions. I don't know if I am ever going to hear the end of it. I was down in the student club last night watching the game with Lira and I seriously thought we might have a riot started right there in the dorm. Outside was not better. It was like when K-State upset Oklahoma last year, only instead of just being the students of one university, this was the entire country out in the streets screaming, blowing air horns, and drinking. Obviously, I am happy for them. I mean, I always get a smile on my face whenever I hear about Canada loosing (read: being destroyed) in their nation's only sport.
