Karlstejn and a Tower

◊ On Saturday, I took a quick trip to Karla... something. Everything here starts with Karla or Karlo. Anyway, It has a really neat fortress on a hill. Actually, that is about the only thing in the town except for a hillside full of tourist shops. The castle it's self was really neat, but I was more than a little disapointed by the tour. The place was constructed to guard the coronation jewles of the Czech king. They went in the top of that big tower, which we were not allowed into. I don't know why. The jewels are not even there anymore; they are locked up in St. Vitus Cathedral in Prague Castle. The neatest part of the whole place, aside from the view, was the well tower. It was far too deep to see the bottom. The woman in there opened up a little door in the safty glass and poured some water down the well. It disapeared into darkness and we commented about how that was not very helpful. Then the water hit the bottom. With the watter rippling we could see where it's level was. That was a very long way down.

That is only the third cat I have seen anywhere in Europe.

◊ It was a short trip. It took only 45 minutes to get there, an hour in the castle, and maybe an hour total in the town. The train on the way back was downright luxurious. I was the first double decker I have ever been on. Some of the other guys had decided to go camping in some other town. They wanted to just go out into the woods and spend the night. I told them they were freaking crazy. In the end, Nelson finally realized that I was right so the only ones who went were Nathan and a group of crazy Germans. I tried to warn them about the axe murderers but did they listen? Noooo.
◊ When we got back, Nelson and I grabed some fried cheese and went touring. We were walking in a random direction and eventually decided to walk to 'The Finger', a the horridly ugly television tower with an observation deck about halfway up. We aproached through the most convoluted district in town, never actually being able to walk towards the tower. You can imagine it took us a while to get there. Upon finally approaching it's base, there were several things I noticed that I had not noticed before. For one thing, the place was built on top of a jewish cemetary. Those wacky communists and their nutty disrespect for the dead never cease to crack me up. Another thing was that there are GIANT METAL BABIES WITH BARCODES FOR FACES CRAWLING ALL OVER IT! See for yourself.

◊ What irks me was that I paid good money to go up in that thing and no one ever checked my ticket or even tore the stub. I guess this means I might be able to resell it. The view from the to was phenominal. I could see clear to Dejvicka. It was worth the trip, especially for someone who has traveled all over the city. I even found a few new places that I want to go.

  • Adam, Germans are crazy. And a little scary once you get to know them. They can probably handle any axe murderers they may happen to run across in the woods.

  • I found out later that their camp was not attacked by an axe murderer, but instead was crashed by a herd of wild boar(s?).
